PAN Calls for Safer Conditions for Ride-Hailing Drivers

The National Action Party in the Congress of Mexico City expressed its concern about the insecurity situation faced by female drivers of app-based taxi companies in the capital. Reports of assaults, including a case of a serial rapist, have been made public; however, the Attorney General's Office (FGJCDMX) has faced difficulties identifying and capturing those responsible.

Deputy Claudia Pérez Romero pointed out the lack of safety protocols by various private transportation companies, both for users and driver partners. There have been reports of robberies against drivers, as well as cases in which users blackmail operators. Pérez Romero emphasized the need to impose appropriate sanctions in these cases.

In this context, Pérez Romero reported the presence of a serial rapist who has been attacking female drivers associated with a particular application. Given this serious situation, the deputy requested that companies ensure the protection of women working as drivers on their platforms across Mexico City.

Among the concrete measures proposed by Claudia Pérez Romero to guarantee the safety of female drivers are the installation of a panic button in vehicles, the implementation of monitored routes in coordination with the local Citizen Security Secretariat, access to tear gas as a defense mechanism, real-time background checks on passengers, and the creation of a reporting system that ensures proper follow-up on allegations of sexual assaults by female drivers.
